Practicing with light resistance with a partner or on a dummy, reduces those risks, learning and building trust is a process that will gradually build itself up over time, resulting in confidence to apply these techniques and in time, increasing to maximum resistance while training jui jitsu.
Jiu Jitsu Takedowns in Competition Fighting.
Most Competition fights finish by points. The way to score points is to control the fight and maneuver yourself into a dominant position (full mount, knee on stomach, side control,…).
This is why Jiu Jitsu fighters spend most of the time working on ground techniques rather than spending time practicing takedowns.
For the same reasons as the Judo players, Jiu Jitsu fighters aren't as trained on their feet, which puts them at risk against anyone with more takedown skills. But saying that! Mostly Jiu Jitsu takedowns are a combination of Judo and specific Jiu Jitsu techniques.
